When you think of the King of Rock & Roll, who comes to your mind first?

This is a story I heard by chance on a TV program before. Elvis Presley is the highest-paid man in America even after his death. I think Elvis Presley, a truly amazing and legendary singer, is the real King of Rock & Roll.

Elvis Presley’s mansion and museum, which is called “Graceland,” is located in Memphis, TN.

If you are a fan who loves and misses Elvis, I recommend that you visit. This is also a must see when visiting Memphis, TN. ^^

In this story, I will share all my journey of Graceland to feel the trace of Elvis Presley we still miss & love.

My family lives about 5 hrs.- drive from Elvis Presley’s mansion and museum which is called “Graceland” and visited there for our children’s fall break last month.

I was able to see and read a lot of things about Elvis, but unfortunately due to the rules, I can’t share my personal photos in all the buildings with you.

The pamphlet we received with our ticket of Graceland shows the maps of the museums, and notes for visitors.

Below are the tickets our family booked for Graceland.

I will at least attach photos from Wikipedia.com alongside my own experience and stories in Graceland.

There are various types of tickets on the website. My family bought tickets to visit both the mansion and the museums.

We booked our tickets on online in advance and got actual day passes at the ticket office on the day we had a tour.

As a first journey in Graceland, we watched about a 10-minute movie that briefly described Elvis’s career as a singer in a small movie theater before starting the mansion tour.

After the movie is over, we get out of the building and take the shuttle prepared to enter Elvis’s mansion, which is located across the road.

There are exhibits on where Presley grew up as a child, Tupelo, Mississippi, his cars, careers as a singer and actor, private planes, his only daughter Lisa Marie Presley’s growth process, and singer careers.

Once you enter the gated main door, drive a few more minutes and we saw the main building below.

                                                                              wikipedia.org/Graceland

When we entered the main entrance of the mansion, there was a white grand piano used by Elvis on the right and a seating area with a sofa. To the left was a large and colorful dining room.

In the dining room, high-quality European dishes and a splendid and stylish Chandelier stood out. And there is a white carpeted staircase directly opposite the front door leading to the second floor.

The 2nd floor is a private space that Elvis used only for his family during his lifetime, so it is not open to visitors, even after his death, in order to respect his privacy.

After passing the stairs, a large kitchen and family room are connected to, and there is also a luxuriously decorated bedroom and bathroom. And in the basement, there is a home cinema with several TVs.

If you go out the back door from this building and walk a little, you will be connected to other buildings, and there are total of 4-5 small annexes. It was mainly used as a space for games or exercise.

Elvis likes a lot of sports such as billiards, handball, racquetball, and shooting, so there was equipment for each exercise in the annex. What was interesting is that he liked Asian martial arts so much, so he actually spent a lot of time to learn martial arts. ^^

In the backyard, there was a swimming pool and horses in the fence, and there was a large playground for the only daughter, Lisa.

The prairie was very wide and beautiful.

And as you can see in the picture below, Elvis’s tombstone is kept next to the pool. In addition to all the above photos, numerous photos, wedding gowns, stage costumes, memorabilia of his wedding day and many videos are displayed like a museum at Presley’s mansion.

After the tour of his beautiful mansion, this is the restaurant we visited for lunch. There are several restaurants and an ice cream shop here, but only the one below was open on the day we visited due to Covid.

This restaurant serves classic Southern U.S. BBQ.

My family chose pulled pork, chicken, and fried catfish for the main menu.

For side dishes, I chose baked beans, green beans, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and chicken soup. We also chose cornbread, one dessert, and soda. The set menu includes 3 mains, 2 side dishes, cornbread, one dessert, and a soda drink for $16.99.

After a nice lunch in the complex, we went to the Airplane Museum first among the many different museums.

About 10 museums are all gathered in one place.

These are pictures taken from the exterior of the museum.

In the Airplane Museum, everybody in line stayed 6 feet apart to keep social distance for Covid-19 and were able to get inside the plane slowly.

A large plane had many amenities such as a dining room, meeting room, bedroom and TV, a lounge where you could relax, and a game room.

This is the private plane he used with all the staff to go to concerts in other States.

And the small plane was the size of a large helicopter.

The video below shows our arrival at Graceland, walking around the parking lot, and walking towards the entrance, and eating at a restaurant.

It’s a pity that I couldn’t capture the inside of the building, but I hope you enjoy it with the music.😀

Not far from the University of Memphis, the University gardens, and the history museum make it a great place to visit.

-The outdoor garden and art gallery are together, so you can appreciate the beauty of both picturesque nature and fine art collections at the same time.

-The garden has five species and twenty-four cultivars of hydrangeas, and you can see a greater variety of flowers in spring and summer. There was also a long & beautiful walking path alongside the garden.

-The art gallery exhibits works by different artists from different periods.

-If you look at the event calendar on the website, various events are held every month in the gallery.

-A variety of programs are available for all ages, including study programs for children, yoga and meditation classes for adults, and Wine Tasting. As an annual member, you can participate in all events for free or at a reduced price.

-Let me introduce one more thing. Near the main entrance of the Dixon Gallery, there was a statue called The Three Shades by the famous French sculptor Auguste Rodin. The precise meaning of shade in this work is soul. The original work is on display at the Rodin Museum in France. They put a copy on display here in the Dixon Gallery, I felt like I lucked out.^^

The 32-second video below shows you the detailed description of statue.😀

2. Germantown

About a 25-minute drive east of Graceland is Germantown.

Different from the name, many immigrants from all over the world gather to do business, and there is an upscale outdoor shopping mall, so it was a great place to shop and eat. We tried the fusion Korean restaurant in Germantown.
